Step 1: Check and Replace the Battery The first thing to do when attempting to troubleshoot a key fob is to perform a battery check. To do so, you'll need to open the key fob to access the battery compartment. Start by locating the tiny release button on the side of your Cadillac's key fob case. Pressing this button will pop open the case to reveal the metal key. Take out the key to reveal a small opening, then use a flathead screwdriver to pry open the key fob case. Inside, you should see the circuit board on one side and the battery on the other. Inspect the battery for signs of damage or corrosion. You can also test the battery using a multimeter to see the voltage reading. If the battery is damaged or the voltage reading is too low (below 3 volts), you need to replace it.  Most Cadillac models use a CR2032 battery, which you can purchase at your local hardware store. Once you have the new battery, simply insert it into the battery compartment with the positive side facing down. When the battery is in place, pop the case back on and test the fob. You can also use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to wipe difficult-to-reach areas. Remember not to use too much alcohol, as doing so can damage your key fob's buttons. Next,  wipe the key fob with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any excess moisture. When you're done, reinsert the battery and pop back the case before testing to ensure it's working correctly. Step 3: Test the Button Testing whether your key fob button is working is  straightforward. Simply hold the key fob against your Cadillac's push-button start or steering column and press the button on the fob. If your car responds by locking or unlocking the doors or starting, it means your key fob button is not the problem.
